To the members of the Sing Canada Harmony Scholarship Committee,

My name is Benton Froc. I was recently selected as a recipient for a scholarship offered by Sing Canada Harmony. I cannot express how thrilled I was to find the letter detailing your generous offer of support in my mailbox! Your financial help will take off a great deal of financial stress I have so that I can continue to develop my professional vocal skills and pursue my passion of singing and teaching.

I recently completed my Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Regina in April 2021. I thoroughly enjoyed my studies there! It was fantastic to be surrounded by peers and professors who all shared similar passions to mine: to create, to perform, and to teach. My classes further enhanced my desire to one day become a professional musician, and my time spent in choir rehearsals was a large part of that. Choir is where I bonded the most with my fellow vocalists, and also where I discovered the enjoyment of conducting an ensemble. Through other classes, I was given opportunities to teach voice lessons, expand my pedagogical skills, and develop research practices that would inform and direct my performance practices.

Since convocating, I have worried about whether or not I would be able to financially afford to continue studying music. It would no longer be tuition-based, but strictly out-of-pocket.My passion for music has never been stronger, and my involvement in music has never been greater! I currently sing in two choirs, assistant conducting one of them; I performed in an Arts Showcase this past summer with other talented vocalists in a musical theatre review; I am starting to build a private studio for teaching voice lessons; I plan on entering competitions and music festivals and performing in solo recitals, and I am a research assistant for an internationally-acclaimed musicologist and a peer-reviewed Bach journal. All of this would not have been possible without my education, but my future music endeavours would not be possible without support from organizations like Sing Canada Harmony.

In summary, I am incredibly grateful for your decision to grant me funding to pursue my passions. My ultimate goal is to give other budding vocalists the opportunity to find theirs; whether it be in a choir, private lessons, or even listening to a recital. Thank you for your generous offer of support, and for the support you give to other passionate musicians to pursue their dreams.
